Can We?
* Fond Doux Community Clinic
Since 2021 the Foundation has operated a community Clinic in cooperation with the Wesleyenne Church of Fond Doux. The clinic is open 4 days a week and employs a physician, a nurse practitioner and health teacher, a lab technician, a community health worker, custodian and night watchman. The Foundation provides the finances, the church provides the building and a Haitian clinic committee establishes policy. Although the clinic charges for its services, most patients receive subsidized or free care including free children checkups and a program for malnourished children. A pregnancy program to promote healthy babies also meets in the clinic building.
* Advanced Care/Surgery
As we are able, we fund more advanced medical and surgeries for live-threatening and life altering situations. These have included surgeries for cancer, hernia, broken bones and congenital conditions. We are very limited by available funds to help all of those who arrive at our medical clinic with nowhere to turn for help; the need always exceeds our available funds.
* Community Health Worker
To provide for some emergency care a Fond Doux village woman has been hired to provided first aid and rehydration availability. She also distributes hygiene kits for teen-age girls and post-delivery mothers and instructions in how to use them. Pre-natal vitamins and medical supplies are provided by the Foundation.
* Days For Girls
The sewing sisters of Epworth Church make hygiene kits with washable sanitary pads to enable teen girls to remain in school. The program has been well received. Twenty-nine different churches have participated in the project.
